I did misread that section.Andrew J. It shall be lawful to operate a bicycle, unicycle or adult tricycle upon any sidewalk.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37712842.post-75332763517556046522010-04-26T19:00:40.891-04:002010-04-26T19:00:40.891-04:00Also,
Most of these regulations are taken nearly ...Also,

Most of these regulations are taken nearly verbatim from New Jersey Law.

The only thing Ventnor should be regulating is bicycling on their boardwalk and sidewalks. Still, it is bad policy to have a sidewalk riding ban that doesn't exclude small children. Ordinance 75-9 subsection B forces small children to ride in the street! I know I wouldn't want a 5yo riding in the street as he learning with training wheels.Andrew J. To paraphrase it...Take note of the first sentence. To paraphrase it says "bicycles owned AND operated by local residents are subject to the safety inspection, etc. etc."

If you're just visiting or passing through on your bike you this law does not apply to you.

Still, I don't see where a town comes off regulating something already regulated by the state. They can require permits but all that does is act as a barrier to cycling in the town and is a money loosing program since it would cost more to manage then anyone would be willing to pay in permit fees. Such permit requirements are also known to be used to harass otherwise law abiding cyclist (This is well documented in Los Angeles).Andrew J.
